New York Open Tennis

Professional tennis, along with other sports, life, school and work has been put on hold for awhile due to the pandemic. When we went to the New York Open, we thought it was great to start off the professional tennis year by going to a fabulous indoor tournament. We had no idea, that it may be awhile before we see our favorite professional tennis players again.

The New York Open in Long Island, New York just completed its third successful tournament mid-February.   We have spent the last two Valentine’s Days evenings at the New York Open, a Men’s Professional Tennis, indoor tournament.   We have enjoyed this tournament mainly because we were able to see great men's professional tennis only an hour and half from our home in New Jersey.

The New York Open Accommodations and Venue

The great thing about going to this tournament is that the Marriott Long Island is literally across the parking lot from the venue, the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum.  You simply walk from the hotel to the complex. For the past two years, we have purchased VIP tickets which allows access to the VIP lounge at the Coliseum. The VIP access provided a meet and greet opportunity, at each session.  Last year we met John Isner. This year we met the doubles team, Dominic Inglot and Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi, and had a great photo opportunity.

The New York Open Tennis Match

Our evening session was a great match up between Reilly Opelka and Jason Jung.  Reilly Opelka was the 2019 New York Open Champion, so was the crowd favorite. However that night, Jason Jung played better in an impressive three set match.

Surprisingly, there was more to do at the New York Open besides watching feature men's singles and doubles matches. We found out that there were opportunities for tennis players to play tennis at this venue.  The USPTA (United States Professional Tennis Association) ran clinics (tennis clinics were available to sign up on a first come, first serve basis) each day, which concentrated on different aspects of the game, with many great Professional Teaching Professionals. We found that many people stayed the entire week for the tennis playing opportunity and then watch great professional tennis matches, too!

Playing tennis and watching professional tennis has been wonderful to share with my husband over the years. I am so appreciative of all our memories, and look forward to many more.
