My 70th tennis travel review for tennistravelsite.com… the last few years we have traveled and played tennis around the world, from Palma de Mallorca, Spain to Maui, Hawaii. This milestone review shared our visit to Costa Mujeres, Mexico.
We chose to stay at the Grand Palladium Resort and Spa in Costa Mujeres, Mexico because the resort happened to be the home of the Rafa Nadal Tennis Centre, Costa Mujeres. We had visited the Rafa Nadal Tennis Centre on our last visit to Cancun, Mexico. In the past, we merely dropped in for the day and experienced the tennis. We enjoyed it so much, we decided to return and stay on property to get the full experience!
We began our trip from the Cancun Airport with a private shuttle ride with Happy Shuttle, Cancun (travel tip: book online airport transportation in advance. It makes the transition from airport to hotel much easier). Our driver was on time and provided us with a relaxing trip from Cancun Airport to The Grand Palladium Costa Mujeres Resort and Spa (travel tip: approximate 30 minute ride from Cancun Airport). The booking was for round trip and you were provided with a voucher for the return passage on the initial trip and the return date/time was verified. The drivers were very professional and were spot on time!
We quickly arrived at the property after the 30 minute drive. Checking in to our room went smoothly. The Resort property was massive, the home of more than one hotel. You were quickly provided with a quick overview of the property (tip: Grand Palladium Resort and Spa was an all-inclusive resort!). As we reviewed the resort map, we found that there were many areas to explore on the property.
We walked to the “town” area inside the resort, where there were many restaurants, bars, shops and clubs. After we dined, we took a stroll along the lake and came upon one of the docks. Our timing was perfect as one of the water taxi’s pulled up and waited for us. We hopped onto the boats, and we were given a lovely tour of the property. We exited our boat ride near the large beach area and the resort’s spa. The spa is massive with amazing facilities and treatments available to you. The Spa facility has a day pass and can be purchased for your entire stay. (tip: the spa offered specials… make sure you ask!). The Grand Palladium also has planned activities throughout the day (similar to a cruise ship). These are presented to you upon checkin. When we arrived earlier at our resort, we noticed the property staff eagerly preparing for a big Halloween celebration. When staying at the Grand Palladium Costa Mujeres Resort and Spa, you never have to leave the property because they offer so many amenities for their guests.
Our much anticipated tennis session at the Rafa Nadal Tennis Centre exceeded our expectations, again. The tennis center was a quick shuttle ride from the resort, or in most cases, in walking distance. We were excited about returning to the beautiful tennis center. The Rafa Nadal Tennis Centre has a tennis academy with several tennis courts, a paddle court and a soccer field, a Rafa Nadal museum and a Pro Shop. A large circus tent like structure shaded three of the eight red clay tennis courts from the hot sun. The court was clay of course!
Many tennis players travel to train at the Rafa Nadal Tennis Centre, to learn tennis the Rafa Nadal way. We reserved our tennis session with our tennis Pro in advance, and we were provided with the same Pro (Ruben) from our last visit. (Tip: this is something that they will do, provide you the same instructor if possible). There were many programs for adults and children. A typical tennis program was built starting with a three-day tennis clinic, while staying at the Grand Palladium. A perfect day at this resort would be to enjoy tennis clinics, play tennis, enjoy the beach and spa, dine and shop, and repeat.
After staying at the Grand Palladium Resort and Spa, Costa Mujeres, tennis players have the opportunity to take a small piece of tennis the Rafa Nadal way home with them through their tennis lessons from the Rafa Nadal Tennis Centre. The resort was the perfect place for a ladies, mens, couples or family tennis getaway! The magic of Rafa Nadal is what continued to bring us back to the Rafa Nadal Tennis Centre, Costa Mujeres.
