Our plan was to stay an extra day in Rome, Italy following our fantastic Norwegian Epic Mediterranean cruise. After touring some of Rome’s famous sites such as Trevi Fountain and the Colosseum, we headed to our hotel, Rome Cavalieri, a Waldorf Astoria resort (travel tip: Waldorf Astoria resorts are part of the Hilton family). Our resort was set on hill overlooking Rome.

We had made a last minute change to our itinerary from staying at an airport hotel to staying at the Rome Cavalieri. We were determined to play tennis in Rome, Italy! We picked this Waldorf Astoria resort because of the opportunity to play tennis on their red clay tennis courts, and the proximity to the central area of Rome. When we arrived at the resort (by Uber – travel tip: Uber only operates in two Italian cities: Milan and Rome), we booked our tennis court for the evening. We were encouraged to wait for our room on the verandah, on the warm mid-October day, overlooking the pool and gardens. We enjoyed our relaxing afternoon, late lunch delicious meat and cheese platter with wine. It was a great way to end our vacation.

After our leisurely afternoon at this resort, discovering the property’s amenities such as the spa, fitness area (very impressive gladiator workout) and indoor pool (Roman bath like), we geared up for our tennis at the resort’s facility. The tennis Pros greeted us warmly, ensuring we had plenty of water and tennis balls (tennis tip: always bring a can or two of tennis balls to play tennis).

As evening set, under the lights we paused to enjoy the spectacular view and our surroundings, before we started our tennis match on the red clay! The tennis facility had two lighted courts. The main court next to the Pro shop was located on the first level. We played on the second level, which overlooked the first tennis court and the city, all surrounded by mature greenery! It was truly a memorable experience. We would have loved to hit with one of the tennis Pros the next day; however, our trip had come to an end.
