My Valentine’s Day gift to my husband was an evening at the New York Open tennis tournament, played at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale, New York. The ATP 250 tennis tournament was first played in 2018. We were pleasantly surprised at this fantastic professional men’s tennis tournament, played so close to home!
Where To Stay
We stayed at the Marriott Long Island the evening of the tournament. We knew it was close to the coliseum; but we didn’t know that it was minutes away (walking) from the front door of the coliseum! The drive from New Jersey to Long Island was less than two hours (travel tip: the venue was located near JFK airport)!

The New York Open
My husband and I used to attend the SAP Open in San Jose, California (one of our first dates!). That tournament was run very similar to the New York Open. The New York Open tournament was welcoming from the start. Our tickets included VIP Lounge access. Upon arrival, we were guided to the VIP Lounge, with a nice buffet dinner and beverages. The bonus of purchasing the VIP seats was the ability to meet one of the professional tennis players from the tournament.

We had a meet and greet session with John Isner! John was friendly and charming to everyone. His warm eyes and easygoing responses were heart warming. We were very proud of the American tennis player. Of course, my husband told him that we were rooting him last November at the ATP Finals in London! He said that was great! (John Isner was one of the top 8 players in the ATP to earn a spot in the year end finals tournament).

We had a great evening of tennis at the “Back in Black” tournament (the tennis courts with surrounding walls were black!)! First up was Frances Tiafoe, who played a promising challenger, Jason Jung. It was a close match with Jung winning brilliantly! To top off watching the great singles match, we were fortunate to see the Bryan Brothers play! Mike’s twin, Bob Bryan finally had returned to tennis, after hip replacement surgery. It was fun to watch an all-American doubles match. It was great tennis.

Last thoughts
Going to the New York Open professional tennis match, on Valentine’s Day with my husband was fantastic! We were able to commute to the venue in a reasonable amount of time, stay at a nice hotel, have a nice meal and meet one of our favorite tennis players. In the winter or when you can’t play tennis, watching great professional tennis was such a great option! We will definitely go to the New York Open again!
