The beauty about traveling to St. Thomas, was that it is part of the U.S. Virgin Islands. No passport was required for travel to St. Thomas, U.S. citizens. We chose to stay in January, at The Ritz-Carlton, St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, for our relaxing, tennis and beach destination.
The Ritz Carlton, St. Thomas had two lit tennis courts on property, adjacent to the Spa. Reservations were made at the Spa reception (by the way, the massage at the Spa was fantastic!). At the Spa reception, you were able to book court time, or elect to take a lesson with the on call tennis professional. What we loved best about the tennis facility was that the intimate courts were nestled in beautiful caribbean foliage. It was truly a blessing to be able to discover beautiful and unique places to play tennis.
We played tennis each morning on the carpeted tennis court. We noticed in the Caribbean that a lot of the tennis courts’ surfaces were carpeted. This particular tennis court had sand on the carpeted court. In addition, the court lines were indented in the green carpet, so it gave the appearance of a typical hardcourt. The carpeted courts surface felt great on your knees and other joints, similar to playing on har tru courts. The small amount of sand on the carpets allowed the same type of feel as sliding on a har tru court. We also noticed that tennis court had a backboard wall, which was great for warming up, or if you want a partner who can return each and every ball!
While staying at this resort, all water activities were included in the resort fee such as sailing lessons, stand up paddle, along with snorkeling and other water sports! So, after playing tennis, there were quite a few activities to partake in, or just relax by the pool or beach, and enjoy the beauty of the day!
Tip: Just in case, bring your passport when you go to St. Thomas. You won’t need it on St. Thomas or the neighboring island, St. John’s however, all other islands that you see will require passports from U.S. citizens.
